MIDLAND COUNTY – The third of three projects on FM 1787 will begin in June. This segment runs about 8 miles and stretches between FM 1788 and SH 349.

In addition to rehabilitating the road, the project will add 10-foot shoulders to the road. Improved shoulders offer a significant safety upgrade.

The 16-month project will require daytime lane closures. Temporary traffic signals and a pilot car will be in use at times in the project. The road will be open at night, but there may be times when motorists are driving on an unpaved surface.

The speed limit in the work zone will be 65 miles per hour. A width restriction of 12 feet will also be in place in the work zone. Motorists are reminded that state law requires them to obey warning signs, flaggers and pilot cars. Extreme caution and observance of the speed limit are crucial for safety in this project.

DelHur Industries Inc. of Andrews won the project with a low bid of a little less than $13 million on the project.

Two other projects are also under way to improve FM 1787. One project goes from US 385 to RM 1492, while the other goes from RM 1492 to FM 1788. Jones Brothers Dirt & Paving of Odessa is the contractor on both of those jobs.

The 3.75-mile section from RM 1492 to FM 1788 is scheduled to be completed in early 2020. The low bid was $3.14 million.

The 10-mile section from US 385 to RM 1492 is scheduled to be completed in November 2020. The low bid was $16.7 million.
