The Permian Basin Celebrates Bike Month

Local Permian Basin Cycling Enthusiasts and Advocatess encourage the community to come outdoors and celebrate cycling at various events.

Midland, Texas - May is National Bike Month. The Permian Basin isjoining communities across the country and the League of American Bicyclists, the national organization of bicyclists in celebrating national events like:

  • May 4th -Bike to School Day
  • May 16th-20th -Bike to Work Week
  • May 18th –Ride of Silence
  • May 20th -Bike to Work Day

Roger Masters, Permian Basin Bicycle Association President, David Ham, Owner of Peyton’s Bikes DaMPO, and the Permian Basin Metropolitan Planning Association (MPO) urge anyone who has not done so to try cycling for fun, fitness or transportation. Attached is a full calendar of events.

Following are some tips that will help you enjoy biking to work more:

  • Have your bike checked over by your local bike shop
  • Always wear a helmet to protect your head in the event of a crash
  • Ride in the right-most lane that goes in the direction that you are travelling
  • Obey all stop signs, traffic lights and lane markings
  • Look before you change lanes or signal a turn; indicate your intention, then act
